I downloaded and used some utils from this excellent site to try and increase it's performance namely ccleaner, taskfree and complete clean up. I found that after running these programs Office stopped working I don't know whether it is related to those programs saying that it was not installed for that user, or words to that effect. I spoke to an IT guy at work about this and he told me to unistall office totally then try reinstalling it - i did this following instructions microsoft office 2007 enterprise encountered an error during setup free download the microsoft site.
On reinstalling I was presented with the 'Microsoft Office Enterprise encountered an error during setup' message. I've tried loads of 'fixes' from different forums and from microsofts site and nothing has worked. Has anybody got any ideas of a way to sort this problem? Hi Try this if not done so already, download and install the Office Installer Cleanup Tool and once run remove anything that mentiones Microsoft Office, then run CCleaner to delete the temp folders so that no Office installer temp files are stored, reboot then install Office again.

This was driving me mad as there was no error log file I could find and I had followed numerous suggestions on various web sites such as Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

I browsed to the network share where I had the CD copied, put in my reg key, chose the installation options I wanted and began the install. Like any good IT dude, I thought a nice reboot would be helpful. I restarted the server and started the install again. Around the same point, I was given the same error. Next, I decided to try installing Office from CD instead of over the network.
This gave me the same exact result. After another reboot, I thought I would just try updating Project. This went perfectly. I did a little looking around online and found an article that sort of described my issue. It recommended that I first uninstall old Office and then try installing new Office. Unfortunately, this gave me the same error. It was getting late at this point, so I figured I'd just cut my losses, reinstall Office and head home. So now, I have Office and Project installed and functioning on this server.
